Singer songwriter and performer Jed Marum brings American and British Isles Folk music to festival, club and concert stages around the country. Since 1999 he has published over a dozen albums, licensed music to film and TV projects and works over 150 shows each year all over the US.
His album, CROSS OVER THE RIVER; A Confederate Collection recently won the 2009 JP Folk Album of the Year Award. From the over 42,000 albums published in 2009 and distributed around the world by big record labels, solo artists and indie labels alike, JP Folk selected CROSS OVER THE RIVER; A Confederate Collection as Album of the Year - in the Traditional/Folk category. The album was also was nominated for the 2009 Southern Heritage Award.
Nicky Rossiter is host of STORIES on Ireland''''s South East Radio says,
"Marum gives us history in song and music that is every bit as powerful and awe-inspiring as the television series Civil War. He has a wonderful facility for taking these stories of the ordinary people and the big events and making them real. His use of personal papers and poetry from the period is exceptional. He never forgets his Irish roots or the often underestimated contribution of the Irish to that conflict."
James P. Gannon former Wall Street Journal editor and author of "Irish Rebels, Confederate Tigers" writing about one of Jed songs said,
"Prayer from Little Round Top is the song one of the great Irish poets might have written had he marched to Gettysburg with Jeds Irish immigrant from Alabama. The melody seems to well up from some misty glen in Connemara, wrapping the soldier''''s sad story in a teardrop. It may mark me as a sentimental Irish man to say this, but if you can listen to this haunting song without finding your eyes moistening, then somewhere along lifes way, you have lost your soul."
SingOut! a Folk/Bluegrass music magazine says:
"Jed Marum is a Texas songwriter who specializes in Celtic music with strong American traditional influences. His real strength lies in historical storytelling as he takes events of the Civil War and tales of the Irish-American combatants and sets them to newly penned tunes or well known folk melodies. The subtitle of CROSS OVER THE RIVER is A CONFEDERATE COLLECTION and most the selections have a decidedly Rebel point of view."
"Anyone who is interested in Civil War history or who simply enjoys great songs performed well will most certainly find plenty of each on Jed Marums CROSS OVER THE RIVER."
